URQUHART
|
Dates from: 1250
A Celtic fortress has occupied Strone Point from the 500’s. What is now the ruin of Urquhart Castle began in the 1250’s but was besieged, rebuilt, and altered through the centuries. The 13th and 14th centuries saw substantial expansion, and in the 16th century the owners constructed a large keep named the Grant Tower. The castle was destroyed in 1692. The paintings depicts a 1998 view.
