KILCHURN
KILCHURN |
Dates from: 1440 Located on a small island at the head of Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle dates to 1440. In the years after 1500, Kilchurn became a key link in the chain of castles sustaining Campbell power in western Scotland. The structure saw expansion through the 16th century and three corner towers added in the late 17th century. Kilchurn was besieged in 1654, abandoned by 1740, and lost its roof in 1745. The paintings depicts a 2004 view.
