HUNTLY
HUNTLY |
Dates from: 1180 Huntly Castle, originally named Strathbogie Castle, commands the confluence of the Deveron and Strathbogie rivers. Most of what remains today was constructed in 1410, although the castle site dates to 1180. Huntly, sacked in 1452, underwent extensive remodeling in the 16th century, transforming it into a baronial mansion. That structure was besieged in 1562 and 1644, and destroyed in 1745. The painting represents a 2004 view of the ruin.
