FYVIE
FYVIE |
Dates from: 1200s During medieval times, the River Ythan flowed around Fyvie Castle, creating a fortress of impenetrable marshes. Fyvie began as a royal castle in the 13th century. By the late 14th century, ownership had passed through several families, each of whom added to the structure. A trio of additions ensued, in 1397, 1433, and 1596. The sieges of 1644 and 1650 left Fyvie semi-ruinous, and by the 18th century, in a damaged state; but major repairs came in 1733, followed by another expansion in 1889. Today, the castle is one of the finest in Scotland. The painting renders Fyvie’s appearance in 2008.

Boundaries A Legend of Fyvie Castle
. . . I enter this strange realm and am welcomed by creatures, half-animal and half-human. Elves, small in stature but large in in heart, are introduced. I am shown a garden and given an apple. "Take this for thy wages, Thomas," the commands; "it will give thee a tongue that can never lie." . . .
Told from the perspective of True Thomas
Fyvie Castle is included in the Lowlands Map.
