Royal Castle

The site has been occupied from antiquity.  The first castle was built in 1018, besieged in 1093, occupied by the English in 1173.  The Scots retake Edinburgh Castle, it is then occupied by the English from 1296 – 1313.  In 1315, Robert the Bruce slights the castle.  David's Tower is constructed from 1367 to 1371.  The castle is expanded in 1483 and besieged in 1649.  The painting depicts 2006.
