Direlton Castle
SCOTLAND

Dates from:  1200s
Associated Clans / Families:
Congilton, Vaux, Haliburton, Ruthven, Erskine, Maxwell, then Nisbet

 

Direlton Castle once had an impressive gatehouse with a drawbridge over a moat.  The castle was built in the 1200’s and besieged in 1298.  Direlton was destroyed by General Monck in 1650.  The painting represents the castle in 2006.
