Castle Campbell

Castle Campbell is overlooked by Gloom Hill and was originally known as Castle Gloom.  It was built in the 1400’s.  The castle was restored in 1481.  The 1st Earl of Argyll and Chancellor of Scotland had the name changed to Castle Campbell by an Act of Parliament in 1489.  Castle Campbell was destroyed in 1653 and partially restored in 1654.  The painting  depicts 2006.
