Caerlaverock Castle is surrounded by a wet moat. A unique castle built with a triangular courtyard with a gatehouse at one end and round towers at the other. The castle was constructed in the 1200’s, besieged in 1300 and rebuilt in 1330. It is extended and fortified in 1400 and further expansion occurs in 1634. The castle is damaged and repaired in 1517 and besieged and destroyed in 1640. The painting shows a 2006 vantage.
